Our Holiness Gives Us Intuition

What we get out of our holiness is intuition. We can see in time what shall be. The sequence has started, and we can see what the consequences shall be. But when we are not with the flow, we do not know. That’s why, sometimes, I sit like this and we repeat a few words. Then we meditate for a few minutes. Because when we sit collectively, and meditate collectively, the total sum of that experience purifies our being.

– Yogi Bhajan, from Success and the Spirit: An Aquarian Path to Abundance

There’s a classic struggle in history. People of Divine Consciousness – saints, sages, gurus, teachers, and masters have taken birth on the earth, century after century, with a fairly consistent message. Discipline yourself to live from your heart and your subtlety. Then you will know the Divine and be able to live a peaceful and satisfying life.

But deciding to live in your purity gets a bad rap. As a student in college, long before I knew anything about Kundalini yoga or Sikh Dharma, I hit my 20th birthday and was still a virgin. The teasing I received about being a 20 year old virgin was merciless. It caused me to doubt myself. For a few years, I struggled and tried to act in ways that would allow me to feel part of what was going on around me. But I wasn’t being true to myself. It was only when I stumbled into my first Kundalini yoga class at age 23 that I began to find my balance again.

The problem is image. “Holy” is not “cool.” “Holy” is not “popular” “Holy” is not “in.” So why bother being “holy”? Who wants to be an outcast – unpopular, uncool, and on the verge of society – for life?

Well, as it turns out, there’s actually a benefit to being holy. There’s an advantage to being disciplined and keeping your body and mind as pure as possible. The benefit is intuition.

Intuition offers a lot of gifts. With intuition, we can understand the consequences of our choices beforehand. When we have the ability to sense the outcome before we act, we can avoid a lot of mistakes.

Through intuition, we can see the next steps we’re supposed to take – who to connect with; what to do; where to go. Intuition guides us to what we need to do today so that our tomorrow is protected and prosperous.

Intuition gives us sovereignty. It builds self-trust and self-confidence. It is the most important tool we have as humans to align ourselves with the Cosmic Play. Intuition allows us to flow and be part of the Totality behind the everyday reality. In that flow, we know our part – who we are and what our destiny requires us to do. That knowledge brings ease and grace. It opens the heart and creates a spirit that is carefree and kind.

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with indulging in the sensual, materialistic experiences that the earth has to offer. Yogi Bhajan often taught, “There’s no such thing as good or bad – thinking makes it so.” It’s just a question of the quality of one’s life. Some choices make our lives more opaque. They breed dependence on other’s people acceptance of us. They cloud our judgment. They encourage us to ignore the guidance in our heart.

Other choices allow us to live with more ease, more peace, more grace, and more light. It’s a question of which life a person wants to live.

Heaven and hell don’t wait for us after death. They exist here, now – based on how we treat each other and how we treat ourselves. Ultimately, whether to live a pure and holy life isn’t really about good or bad; right or wrong. It’s a question of whether a person wants to have his or her intuition at his or her command. And when a person lives by intuition – even in the midst of the deepest challenges – heaven becomes possible. To know that which is beyond time and space makes us the masters of our lives.

With Divine Light.

Yours humbly,

Ek Ong Kaar Kaur
