I Trust Youajeet
Years ago I was sitting with my teacher and he had just given me some advice. He said, “Will you do it?” I responded, “Of course, I trust you”. He looked at me so seriously and said, “Never trust me”.
I meditated on that for a long time, wondering who I’m supposed to trust if I can’t trust my teacher. The lesson he gave me in that moment was to only trust in God. I say God because there aren’t really words to describe that wisdom which guides our lives. Some call it Ram, some call it God, some call it Divine, some call it the soul within each of us. Whatever it is, there is no denying that there is a beautiful guiding wisdom that knows just what we need. So, that is where I place my trust.
Lately I’ve been on tour with my beloved band, chanting almost every night with a different community. Honestly we were a bit nervous about this tour because we flew all the way across the country and fit so many events into a short period of time, and had never been to any of the venues before. We didn’t know what to expect, but we knew we needed to take the leap and trust the universe to organize the rest. Of course, as soon as we surrendered it ended up being the most beautiful tour. Each event felt like such a blessing, and the angels who popped up along the way to support our journey have been such a gift. Today as I write I’m sitting in the back of the car on a long drive. Sitting here watching the incredible landscape of the Arizona mountains, I wonder how it is possible that God created this, and I still don’t trust that same wisdom to care for my own journey. Some little part of me still feels that I need to do the work, and leaps without fully knowing that I will be caught.
Today I commit to trusting that wisdom that goes so far beyond my own, knowing that each breath and each step is perfectly placed. I pray that we can each feel that perfect wisdom within us, and trust that above anyone and anything.
