“Your shallowness or greatness of the soul shows up in your aura.” ~ Yogi Bhajan
In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, the electromagnetic field that surrounds the human being is recognized as a chakra. Through this center of consciousness, we can easily experience realms beyond the physical body. The eighth chakra combines the effects and holds the powers of all the other energetic centers. Once we begin to integrate all our chakras, the aura fully radiates to project and protect us. Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, thoroughly works to bring balance and strength to our entire system of energetic highways as well as the aura.
The aura is a measurable field of electromagnetic energy that surrounds the body. Everyone and everything in existence has this field. From a highly attuned human aura of 9 feet, to the 1 foot aura of a small rock, to the tiny auras of atoms, everything creates an encircling energetic field. As humans, we are gifted with the ability to strengthen and fine tune our own field. We can use a variety of Kundalini Yoga techniques to easily increase the expansiveness of our eighth chakra. Our aura provides protection against disease and negative environmental influences while also projecting our true nature into the world. With a powerful eighth chakra, we automatically filter negative influences and feel strong, healthy, vibrant. When the aura is weak, we seem vulnerable to everything around us like germs, attitudes, emotions, and we feel sickly, shrunken, dim. Anytime feelings of disconnect surface, try a very simple Kundalini Yoga exercise to increase the auric field. Strengthen your glow and recharge your eighth chakra in four minutes. Stand with the feet shoulder width apart, close the eyes, and focus at the ajna chakra (sixth chakra). Inhale deeply, and sweep the arms out by the sides of the body and up until the palms meet briefly overhead. Exhale powerfully, and sweep the hands back down to the sides of the legs as if they were wings of a great bird. Continue this motion and breath for at least three minutes then sit silent and still for one minute to assess the aura and its vastness.
It is with the aura that we can embody the great human skill of radiance. A strong aura automatically uplifts and improves the workings of all the other chakras. It is a space of sensitivity that interweaves us with the entire universe and allows us to attract opportunities and wealth. With our eighth chakra, we vibrate our highest consciousness and project our destiny. When we are in flow with our true purpose on earth, our aura is vibrant. We can affect universal forces with our mere presence. When we aren’t feeling this radiance coming from within, we can use Kundalini Yoga to increase the brightness and strength of the eighth chakra. In The Eight Human Talents, Gurmukh shares a few simple Kundalini Yoga meditations, as well as a mental exercise we can use to help revitalize the aura.
