Gurmukh is one of the best Kundalini yoga teachers I have ever met. Her classes are always tough but super fun. Last time I was in LA, she tought the 4 u’s kriya to a whole class! I couldn’t believe it.  Anyone who has the done 4 u’s knows what I am talking about. She just dropped us straight into it. I am a young guy, so it was like getting whooped by mama. Anyway, here is the interview we did from the Summer Solstice Catalog – hargobind

About Gurmukh:
Since being baptized 35 years ago with the Sikh spiritual name
meaning “One who helps people across the world ocean,”
Gurmukh has dedicated her life to fulfilling her namesake.
Gurmukh is the co-founder and director of Golden Bridge, Los
Angeles’ premier center for the study and practice of Kundalini
Yoga and Meditation. For nearly three decades, students in Los
Angeles and from around the world have sought out her classes
in Kundalini Yoga, meditation, and pre-and post-natal care.

Can you tell us about the most inspiring/moving place you’ve traveled to teach Kundalini Yoga? What about it had a powerful impact on you?
I’ve been to so many places with so many memories and they all had their
light and impact on all of us spiritually. However, two places come to mind.
When I taught in Tibet, at Lake Mansarovar, with an elevation of almost
15,000 feet, it was a real challenge for everyone: to stay with breath, to
remember to become fearless in spite of the lack of oxygen. That was a
really exciting and unique teaching.
The other place was on the far northeast corner of India in Tawang, at an
orphanage, teaching about 150 Tibetan Buddhist orphan children outdoors.
It was raining and muddy and squishy and nothing stopped their energy, their
delight, their laughter. When we came to chant, we all sat in the rain to chant
Om Mani Padmi Om with children ranging from 4 to 18 years old. That was
definitely a unique highlight. It brought tears to my eyes to see the innocence
of these children. They live in an orphanage for which we help to raise money,
so they can have proper health care and decent living conditions. If anyone
deserves this, it’s these children. The orphanage is directed by Lama Thupten
Phuntsok, a very great soul. If you want to know more about it, visit their
website: www.manjushreeorphanage.org

Is there a special meditation that you would like to share?

The meditation I will give you is from one of our Level II courses. It opens
intuition. It is a four stroke inhale through the mouth, close the mouth and
exhale through the nose. Anyone can do it. It helps everyone. In 16 minutes
you can understand your life, you can understand your tomorrows. It is one of
the most important meditations that Yogi Bhajan has given us.
