In our flagship e-course, The Fundamentals of Kundalini Yoga, Karena Virginia shares a powerful kriya to ignite your radiance. The Four U’s uses parallel and perpendicular angles to balance the stream of energies through your nerves, adjusting the Pranic and Auric Bodies in relationship to your arcline.
In this interview, Karena was kind enough to share her story, how she found herself and her purpose through Kundalini Yoga, and her unique and meaningful definition of Seva. We are so grateful to her for shining her light on all of the students of this life-changing course!
What led you to Kundalini Yoga? How did you discover this practice?
I have always been an extremely sensitive soul, and while I grew up in a loving family with a loving church environment, I never felt like I belonged until I found Kundalini Yoga. How did I find it? I was living in New York and working as an actress and model. I was miserable and asking God to help me find him again. I found a small basement gym with Kundalini Yoga. There were three of us that practiced together, and it was a life saver. Being 25 is hard enough, but being 25 in the midst of New York City when you are a highly sensitive person can bring about tremendous solitude and fear. Kundalini Yoga saved me.
How has Kundalini Yoga changed your life?
I used to think I needed to give my life to God. I used to give everything. Maybe I didn’t feel worthy, or maybe I just love too much. To this day, I have no idea. But, I gave it all. Through the practice of Kundalini yoga, I have found that Seva is the most beautiful practice, however Seva is not a selfless act. Through Seva, we are creating a genuine form of service in the form of self love – giving and healing at the same time, and knowing when it’s time to cover ourselves up and sip tea while giving ourselves the love too.
What pranayam, kriya, or meditation do you find yourself always coming back to in your personal practice? Why?
I chant to Guru Ram Das, every single day, sometimes 10 times a day. I do practice other kriyas and meditations, but chanting to Guru Ram Das brings me home. Why? Because with Guru Ram Das, I am home again.
From your perspective, how is Kundalini Yoga different than other forms of yoga?
I love yoga. I was a certified Hatha teacher before I became a Kundalini Yoga teacher. I still practice Hatha yoga at home. How is Kundalini yoga different? It is a simple answer. Hatha is amazing. Kundalini is MAGICAL.
Why do you think learning the fundamentals of this practice is so important?
We need to understand the depth behind the practice so we understand the deeply spiritual evolution that our soul’s experience. Without understanding the fundamentals, we are tricking our souls into thinking they can simply fly, which they can, however, we need to maintain the human side!
Why did you decide to get involved with this course?
I got involved with this course because I was born to help others, and I sleep at night knowing that my love has touched the hearts of many.
What do you hope students will take away from The Fundamentals of Kundalini Yoga?
I pray that students feel our love for them, and that students receive the community we offer at Spirit Voyage. We are here to serve. This I know to be true.
