4 Powerful Full Moon Meditations in Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is very connected with the elements of the Nature, specifically offering practices that help to support, balance, or counterbalance the effects of the cycles of nature.  For many people, the full moon has a dramatic effect on various aspects of their lives.

For me, I can never sleep if there is a full moon in the sky – something pulls me to the windows to sit and watch its journey across the sky, no matter how tired I might be.  For some people, emotions run raw during the full moon.  Yogi Bhajan teaches about the ebb and flow of energy associated with the various stages of the moon.  You can read a great article about it here by Dr. Ramdesh Kaur: Healthy Living with the Phases of the Moon.

Every time the full moon approaches, I think I should be practicing some special meditations.  I decided to do a bit of research to uncover some favorites amongst my fellow yogis.  Here are some of them with links to instructions on supporting mantras.

1. Antar Naad Meditation for the Full Moon

Mantra: Sa Re Sa Sa

Yogi Bhajan said: “This cycle of the music and mudra is a key to opening the flow of Kundalini. The new awareness will give you the authority to make the right choices to conquer the ugliness of life. You will be peaceful and secure.”

2. Meditation to Experience the Expanded Self

About this Meditation: Concentrate very humbly, because when there is concentration, the glands overwork and over-secrete. Due to this stimulation of the endocrine system, this is a good meditation for practicing on the day of the full moon. It will enhance your inner radiance.

3. Dhrib Dhristi Lochina Karma Kriya

Mantra: Sa Ta Na Ma

About this Meditation: When practiced on the eve of the full moon, the kriya is said to influence the subconscious mind most completely. While most meditations require long periods of practice for mastery, it is possible to master this kriya in one or several sittings. Concentrate with total devotion!

Healing Ring of Tantra

Mantra: Wahe Guru (Sat Nam)

This meditation is only to be done on the days of the Full Moon, New Moon, and eleventh day of the New Moon, with a minimum of eleven people. This is a beautiful group healing meditation that calls on the powerful energies of the full moon. The healing circle can be used to generate and direct healing energy towards any person whether they are a member of the circle, or someone remotely. Alternatively, someone can lie down in the center of the circle.
