Spirit-Voyage-Banner-Simrit-From-Ancient-Storm (1)

Simrit’s newest release, From The Ancient Storm, is truly incredible. It has a totally different feel from her previous releases. Known for her haunting and hypnotic voice, Simrit’s sound is timeless and transports the listener into the sonic realm of the Gods. In her most vulnerable album yet, she shares the depths of the journey into her heart. Recorded live with her band in the studio on 2″ reel to reel tape, Simrit has taken yet another fresh approach to her music. Her voice communicates with so much humanity. Her music touches the listener deeply, understands them, and brings them with her into the unapologetic realm of the soul.

We wanted to find out more about the inspiration for this album and are delighted to share it with you!

Q: What was your inspiration for this album?

A: The Human Experience. Being a human on this planet is such a trip. The more I connect with my authenticity, the deeper the songs and melodies get. The more I connect with my authenticity, the more I can truly feel what it is to be human and connect with other people from a place of real understanding. It’s humanity. That is my inspiration. Real and Deep Connection.

Q: What makes this album different from the rest of the albums in your catalog?

A: This album is recorded live with my band in the studio on 2″ reel to reel tape. I’ve always wanted to do that with my recordings, and I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to do that with such an incredible team. This album is also different from my other albums in that there are more english songs on it. What’s cool about the songs and the mantras is this: They can both be mantric….the songs that I write reside in the mantric space. They have the ability to do what the mantras do.

Q: Can you share a story from the making of this album?

A: The week that we recorded this album live in the studio was the same week of our dear friend’s, Hari Simran’s, passing. We were able to tap into that energy, access him and put all of that into the album. It was really magical.

Q: Is there something that your fans would love to know from the making of this album?

A: This album was recorded in the same place that my last album was recorded…..in Bloomington, Indiana, with my dear brother and producer, Mahan Kalpa Singh. This is our second album together, and we are already talking about the next album. He and I have such a kin relationship and it is the easiest and smoothest process I’ve every experienced in the studio. We really get each other as people and musically we answer each other’s sentences. It’s really rad. We can also be so real and direct with each other that it makes for easy communication in the studio. It’s the way I naturally communicate, but I never had that experience in the studio before working with Mahan Kalpa. I’ve learned that there are people who love this type of communication, and it can work in a live musical and recording environment. It’s a great fortune when you work with people that have mutual respect, love and appreciation for one another.

Q: Are there any special contributors to this album?

Well, the whole band! Everyone in the credits, basically. Everyone contributed so much to this sound. And the sound wasn’t pre-meditated. We just all came together and brought our unique and fresh ideas to the table. I love working for the music. I love the experience of the music telling me what it wants. The song tells us as group what it wants and needs in order to be expressed to its fullest potential. That is awesome, to me…serving the Muse. That is why no one album that I create has been the same. I just do what the Muse wants. And if I’m fortunate enough, then I will continue to do what the Muse wants for the music.

Here at Spirit Voyage, we absolutely adore Simrit, both as a person and as a musician! If you don’t already know her music, we highly recommend that you check her out. Her music is truly transformative!
