Editor’s Note: This is the first of a two-part interview with Harnam. You can also read Part 2, where he gives us a sneak peak into his creative process and shares his passion for art, music, and yoga!
We are deeply inspired by Harnam’s new album Removing Obstacles: Meditations for Transformation!
Each of the three powerful Kundalini Yoga meditations shared on this album will help clear a specific type of block from your life by bringing clarity, providing guidance, and giving you the power to the remove obstacles that stand in your way. These mantras and meditations work deeply on the subconscious level to restore your connection to your own creative source, to help you move forward in this life.
In this interview, Harnam shares his personal connection to these mantra meditations and why this album might just be his best work to date.
What was your inspiration for this album?
Wow…So, who doesn’t have an obstacle in their life? Whether it is a subconscious block or a financial one, we are all challenged in some way. This album is dedicated to anyone who wants to breakthrough whatever is holding them back. Yogi Bhajan said: “There is a way through every block”. This is my way of offering a hand to anyone who needs some help dealing with the obstacles in their life. I know these mantras and meditations have benefited me greatly and I feel lucky to be able to share this music from my heart and the powerful technology of these meditations.
What makes this album different from the rest of the albums in your catalog?
I think this is easily my best work so far. It came together very beautifully as a collaboration with the my producer Ram Dass and the label. Everything about it just works – the music, meditations and artwork seamlessly flow, so that it is really accessible. I think it will help a lot of people.
Can you share a story from the making of this album?
I wish I had an epic funny story about how I accidentally recorded my voice into the wrong side of a microphone adding weeks to the project, but who would believe that?
Is there something that your fans would love to know from the making of this album?
It’s all very real for me. I am working with the chants and meditations of this recording on a daily basis right now. I use them to push me forward and move through the challenges I experience in my own life. They seem to be working really well and I am already planing my next album.
Are there any special contributors to this album? If so, tell us about them!
We really lucked out to be able to get the great Manish Vyas and the amazing Jaared May to play on these tracks. I have long admired Manish for the extraordinary tone and rhythm he gets out of the Tabla; ever since I heard him on tour with Snatam I was hooked. Likewise Jared is an incredible bass player and there is real depth and richness to his playing. He tours with artists like Simrit and Tina Malia. Their contributions really took this project to the next level.
