Aromatherapy and Yoga: Essential Oils for the Sixth Chakra

“To control your emotions, you have to concentrate on the sixth center.”

-Yogi Bhajan

Human chakra systemThe Sanskrit word for the 6th chakra is “Ajna”. It means Command. The 6th Chakra represents our paranormal, extrasensory or supersensible capacity. Its primary function relates to our subtle five senses and our ‘sixth sense,’ or intuition. Located just above and between the eyes, it is known as the “third eye chakra.” This chakra deals with visualization, intuition, imagination and telepathy. The emotion associated with the 6th chakra is “intuitive knowing.” When the sixth chakra is highly developed, one can have clairvoyant abilities. The organs influenced by this chakra are the pituitary gland, eyes, head, and lower brain.

The color associated with the 3rd Eye Chakra is purple/violet.

The 3HO website recommends these asanas and meditations: Focus on the Third Eye, Kirtan Kriya, Archer Pose, Whistle Breaths, all exercises with forehead resting on floor.

The essential oils that support the third eye chakra are those that carry the highest energetic frequency: the sacred oils. Oils we use for meditation.  Oils that both center and uplift us. Sandalwood, Frankincense, Rose, Jasmine, Clary Sage, Patchouli, Palmarosa, Peppermint, Myrrh, Vetiver and Immortelle (Helichrysum italicum) are some of the essential oils that can balance and open the 6th Chakra. You can also add Lemon, Basil or Neroil to your Blend.  The Shunia (Still Point) blend from LIGHT EOB is particularly well suited to the 6th Chakra, as is the Ecstasy Blend.

I appreciate your feedback and comments. Make essential oils a part of your life and  practice!
