The Fourth Chakra (Anahata Chakra, in Sanskrit) represents our ability to feel love for the self and others. It is located in the center of the chest, level with the heart and influences the circulatory, pulmonary and immune systems.

When the fourth chakra is in balance, we feel the interconnectedness of all beings and things; we radiate love, warmth and generosity. We feel unconditional love for all things. The fourth chakra is represented as a lotus with 12 petals. The element is air and the sense is touch. The color associated with the 4th chakra is Green. Green equals healing compassion. Pink (red from the first chakra combined with white from the Crown Chakra.).

The heart chakra is the center of truth (heart of gold). It is the center of feelings (sense of well being- of ’what is love?’). Sadness (tears) in the 2nd chakra manifests as melancholy in the heart chakra. Fear in the 2nd chakra (public speaking) gains power and form and ebbs. It manifests in the 4th chakra as terror/phobias. Anger in the 4th chakra can come out as rage and manifest as clinical depression.

A good mantra for the Heart chakra is: Hum Dum Har Har

This mantra opens the Heart Chakra and means “We the universe, God, God.”

Some essential oils to open the heart chakra are rose, benzoin, meilssa, neroli, frankincense, bergamot, carrot, inula, lavender, spikenard, oregano, marjoram, black pepper, sage, sandalwood, hyssop, cinnamon bark,  and laurel. To make your own blend: Pick up to 4 of these oils, put a total of about 10-12 drops in a 10ml amber or blue glass bottle…fill the remainder of the bottle with a carrier oil…like jojoba.
